BITTORRENT V2 TECHNOLOGY COULD REVOLUTIONIZE EVERYTHING

Hello dear readers of Hacker's Station, today we will talk about a new technology that almost no one has brought. BiglyBT is the first torrent client to add full support for the “BitTorrent v2“ specification. The client is way ahead of the curve of other torrents. According to the developers of BiglyBT, BitTorrent v2 offers several benefits, some of which will be clearly perceptible to users.

BIGLYBT E BITTORRENT V2

BiglyBT is a relatively new BitTorrent client that first entered the scene in the summer of 2017.

The open-source software was created by 'Parg' and 'TuxPaper' who previously worked as principal developers at Azureus and Vuze. After the project stalled, they left to create their own spinoff. People who try BiglyBT will immediately notice that it was created by veteran BitTorrent programmers, because the user interface is old school and feature-rich, just like the client it was based on. However, BiglyBT is more than just a copy.

The developers have continued to improve the software over the years and have just released a new version with several updates. This latest release includes BitTorrent v2 support, making it the first torrent client to support the new specification.

BitTorrent v2 is not well known by the general public, but the developers see it as a potential game-changer. In basic terms, this is a new and improved BitTorrent specification that includes several technical changes. It was first proposed by Bram Cohen in 2008 and updated and improved along the way.

A few weeks ago, v2 support was officially added to the Libtorrent library, which is used by the most popular clients, including uTorrent Web, Deluge, and qBittorrent. These clients have not yet implemented the features and were beaten in time by BiglyBT.

THE DIFFERENCES

One of the main differences that users may notice from BitTorrent v2 is that it creates a new type of torrent format. The torrent v2 format creates a different and stronger torrent hash for a given set of files, which results in a separate swarm from a torrent v1 containing the same files. To facilitate migration, there are “hybrid” torrent files which contain information to build both v1 and v2 for a set of files. BiglyBT supports them, allowing you to download files via in v1 and v2. Older customers can access v1 without modification, but this is not guaranteed.

Different torrent formats may seem like a step backwards, but it's a prerequisite for many additional benefits that make BitTorrent ready for decades to come. We have discussed these benefits in detail above, including the "merger" possibilities.

With swarm merging, someone can download the same file from different torrents that are discovered on demand. BiglyBT already has this option where new files are matched based on file size. This is a rather basic approach that involves some guesswork, which makes it prone to errors.

THE CHANGE WILL BE SLOW

For now, however, not much will change. While users can create and download v2 torrents with the latest release, they are not yet supported by any torrent site or publisher. Until this changes, things will remain the same.

The BiglyBT team wants to be ready for when that time comes and sees the latest release as a change of conversation.

So far, surprisingly little has been said about BitTorrent v2, even by insiders. BitTorrent's parent company, TRON, which usually doesn't hesitate to make big statements, but haven't talked about it yet, as far as we know. In any case, those interested in new technologies can create and share their v2 torrents with BiglyBT today.

CONCLUSION:

As you understand this new technology can bring a boost to torrents but for the moment it cannot be used yet as there are no sites that support it, hopefully some famous torrents like the pirate bay or 1337x start updating their sites. so we could enjoy this technology.

That's all, see you in a future article!
